Greetings to all.

Welcome to the current home site of what I believe will become a popular addition to the Star Trek
tm role playing community.

First of all i would like to appologize for the crummy state of this website. At the moment it is only acting as a way of letting people know about the game. Future updates will include...
-Mission Reports
-Crew Biographys
-Ship specs
-And much more

But what is Star Trek
tm: Carpe Diem?
Carpe Diem is a Star Trek
tm role playing game set in the year 2374, in the Alpha and Beta quadrants of the milky way galaxy. As far as story lines and settings go it is more or less like most other Star Trektm role playing games available. Then what makes it so special?
Star Trek
tm: Carpe Diem uses a blend of Chat (IRC Based) and E-mail play to create a more realistic environment than is currently offered in most role playing games. How does it achieve this you may be asking. Many people who play chat based role playing games may have noticed that the chat screens quickly become cluttered with all sorts of talk, plus characters in different locations all talking having to use symbols which denote their location. This can easily become overwhelming. How does New Horizons overcome this? Quite simply by creating a room for each location that is presently in use.
For example...
The captain and two officers are on the bridge, the doctor and his nurse are in sick bay, three team members are on the planet whilst two science officers are in astrometrics. That's a total of ten people. If they are all chatting on the same screen the screen very quickly gets cluttered up with information and chat. In Carpe Diem a new chat room is generated for each location. The Captain and his officers would be in #The_Bridge for example whereas the science officers would be in #Astrometrics. Each character chats in his/her specific location. Only chatting in other windows when they make an impact on that location (e.g. sending a communication message, leaving their present location and entering a new one, or performing an action which might result in a reaction in the new location).

The Game playing chat sessions last for approximately 1 hour and occur once a week at a designated time (different for each ship). At the end of each session every member of the crew is required to submit a brief Data Log which summarizes the events which took place. They are also free to submit a Personal Log along with their Data Log, the Personal Log should be just that, a personal account of what happened including the characters emotional reactions to the events. These logs will be sent to the Ship Modorator for revision and then passed on to the other crew members to review. At the completion of a mission (which can take several weeks to complete) each character will be given a review of their performance. This review will include commendations, promotions etc.
That concludes the basic summary of the game.
